Too bad it’s not better looking. I still hate the SE front end.

*flame suit on*
I’d drive one and I’m sure it’s not pedestrian levels of boring; probably wouldnt buy one though seeing how the Accord Sport still gets a stick.

Toyota has been killing it recently so it’s totally believable to me that they could make the Camry a decent handler.

Way too many outlets saying the exact same thing. “We’re about to have a huge marketing campaign. . Can you focus on these aspects of the car compared to a base Camry?"

It looks like they’ve cranked up the spring and damper rates and thickened the roll bars enough that the ride is bouncy and jiggly. Add to that the tire noise from the big-block summer tires.
Basically, they’ve taken away everything that people buy Camrys for. No changes to the powertrain, meaning it’s still a melodious 2GR mated to a sluggish Toyota slushbox. I just hope it doesn’t slam into 4th every time you slap it into manual mode, like my old Lexus ES350 did.
That said, the structural enhancements are a legitimate surprise, although they sound quite expensive. If they really wanted to make a hot rod Camry, though, nothing works better than shedding a couple hundred pounds.
I hate the SE’s looks too. Trying too hard without actually being visually pleasing.

It’s a Camry that rides hard on bigger wheels and tougher tires and keeps exactly the same drivertrain power and shifting logic as the XSE. 300 HP is no slouch, so this might be a viable alternative for an occasionally sporty people-cruiser.
Take it to the track, get some yucks, drive it home in comfort, then go to the grocery store. Have fun and don’t worry about quarter mile or lap times.

Doubt it. We have covered this before. The XSE is the less ugly version of that and when compared to the H onda’s entry, “the Accord felt more composed at 125 mph than the Camry did at 90"
Ye ah the suspension could have been tweaked to fix this issue but the accord sport is down 50hp and is just as fast if not faster.
And to further dive in on the suspension, why do you have to get the TRD to have a stable car? The Accord or the M azda 6 doesn't need a special edition.
And IMO it’s just not the same with FWD with out a manual. And I’m not usually a manual snob but with FWD its just different.
With that, th is all boils down to a money grab by Toyota because the TRD name sells.

I’ve always had something of a soft spot for the Camry so I’m inclined to go easier on it I guess. I just see it as a cheaper way to get into the V6 with some suspension enhancements as a bonus. But I’d rather it had the SE/XLE front end, which I find less objectionable. Of course if I were getting a midsize sedan I’d probably just get a Mazda6 turbo anyway.

I can see that and I’ll be straight up as I’m bias to the accord nameplate.
And I’ll agree on the suspension upgrade is a plus but I have a feeling the chassis isn’t that good. I just question does the upgrades actually raise its performance over the others or is now even with the others?
My biggest point is everyone harps “ manuals are dying!” “ Sa ve the manuals”
All w h ile Honda is the only one to offer a manual in top trim, in mid-size coupes or sedans for ages.
P lease note this isnt aimed at you, its just frustration that a n automaker’s attempt to reach enthusiasts but being simply looked over for others appearance packages imo

To everyone harping on the hideousness of the Camry: is it ugly? Yes. But have you seen the Avalon? The Camry starts looking better when compared to that monstrosity.
